Brazil has a new Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation




      

Aldo Rebelo takes MCTI

On Friday, January 2, President Dilma Rousseff, at the beginning of her second term, defines Aldo Rebelo (PCdoB ) as its new Minister of Science Technology and Innovation. During the transition ceremony, Rebelo spoke in defense of a greater appreciation of the area of the agenda in the Federal Government and the National Congress. He said, “ST & I must be addressed in close and deep relationship with politics, with the Congress and the government “since they are associated with the interests of the country’s development, raising the population’s standard of living and the democratization of society.

Few of his commitments are:

• Increase the resources of the National Scientific and Technological Development Fund (FNDCT);

• Keep and maintain the National Knowledge Platform Program (PNPC), released in June by former minister Compline;

• Strengthen the role of the CNPq and FINEP / MCTI “as promoting agencies of scientific and technological development.”

The minister still highlighted the straight on innovation support and productivity of national companies, as a recommendation of President Dilma Rousseff. “We all know that innovation is critical in challenging for the economy. “Brazil has to face this challenge or will fall behind,” said the minister. “The best way to protect Brazil and it´s national interest is to strengthen and develop the country scientifically and technologically, expanding its opportunities for innovation.

Get to know a little about Aldo Rebelo:

MCTI´s minister was born in Viçosa in 1956 and works as journalist and politician, currently affiliated to the Communist Party of Brazil (PC do B). During his public trajectory:

  • Was elected congressman several times by the same party ;
  • Represented the state’s population of São Paulo in the House of Representatives and have been president of this;
  • Minister of State for Bureau of Political Coordination and Institutional Relations of the Government , from 2004 to 2005;
  • He got known by presenting a law project, in 1999 that restricted the use of foreign words in Portuguese and, in 2011 by presenting another one that proposed a complete review on the Brazilian Forest Code, approved by the House of Representatives.
  • He was also Sports minister of the Federal Government, stepping down to take over the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.
